The decision to have a website designed for your company is like allowing your company to have a productive baby, so to say. So just like soon-to-be parents planning for their baby, here are a few tips for the potential clients who want to create a website for their businesses.
1. Capital
The most important thing to be sure of is capital. Wanting to have a website is a completely different story from being able to afford one. Always make sure that your company has budgeted for the cost that will arise from having a website created. Look into every single cost that is going to come from web design; from domain registration, to the annual web hosting costs and depending on your preference; external or internal web maintenance costs.
2. What do you want your website to do for you?
When you are creating a website, research extensively on what you want it to do for you. Yes, the main aim of most websites is to market a person, company or product but what kind of approach are you going to use to achieve your goal? If you are selling products, would you want it to be an e-commerce website? If you are company would you prefer to show off your portfolio? Write down all the ideas you have in mind and discuss them with the people helping you bring your ideas to life.
3. Websites are not made like clip art
Many times when I am talking to my clients, they think that the creation of a website is as easy as creating a word document or worse even, making a drawing in clip art. I am ashamed to admit but I used to be one of those people before I started working with VINAJ Websites. Fortunately, 8 months down the line of web design business has enlightened me on how much work and brain power goes into web design. Something as small as making a menu smaller takes a lot of programming work so next time it seems like a very small glitch, ask the web designer to show you the coding he has to go through to figure out how to fix that “small glitch”… I was shown and please believe, I was worse than Dee Dee in Dexter’s Laboratory.
4. Target Market
When creating a website, just like in advertising, it is always good to know your target market. The look of the website will attract the people who you are trying to reach. For example, an e-commerce website focused on women’s shoes will have to have bright colors because that is the best way to catch a woman’s eye, if it is a website for male’s shoes, the colors and feel of the website will obviously differ. So always know who you are targeting and as a web design company, we shall help you, with the best of our ability, to bring your ideas to life.
